Anita Bruhl

Anita Orona Bruhl, born October 12, 1941, in Corpus Christi, Texas, passed away peacefully

on July 13, 2026, at the age of 84. Growing up in Corpus Christi as one of nine siblings, Anita

learned early the meaning of togetherness and resilience. In her early years, she loved spending

time at the beach with her best friend, walking the shores of Padre Island in search of sand

dollars — a simple joy that stayed with her throughout her life.

Anita began her career at the County of Nueces Tax Office, where she served with consistency

and professionalism. In time, she advanced to the position of Head of Voter Registration,

overseeing operations with careful attention and responsibility. In this role, she ensured that the

community received orderly and reliable voter services, reflecting her longstanding commitment

to public service.

She later moved to Austin, Texas, where she entered the next chapter of her professional life

with the Internal Revenue Service. Anita dedicated 26 years to the IRS, serving with

consistency and professionalism until her retirement. During her years in Austin, she enjoyed

country western dancing and the vibrant live music scene that surrounded the city, embracing

the culture and energy that Austin is known for.

In her later years, Anita found joy in traveling. She loved visiting Las Vegas to gamble,

exploring Napa Valley for wine tastings, and experiencing the food and historic tours of New

Orleans. Her most cherished trip was to Maui, where she traveled with her daughter Grace and

soninlaw Mark Nungesser. Her favorite memory from that trip was attending a traditional luau,

where the fire dancers left a lasting impression, she spoke of often.

Anita leaves behind her sisters Julia Escamilla, Mary Garza, Delfina, and her brother Eddie

Orona. She was preceded in death by her son, Daniel Garza Jr., who passed away in September

2009. She is survived by her daughters Gloria Melissa Herrera and Grace Nungesser. In the

later part of her life, Anita moved to Dallas, Texas, to be close to Grace and Mark, where she

spent her remaining years.

Anita leaves behind a legacy defined by her years of service, her dedication to her work, and the

strength she carried throughout her life. Her family and loved ones will remember her journey,

her accomplishments, and the chapters she wrote through her determination and resilience.

Anita will be returned to the Corpus Christi / Padre Island beach she loved, a place of

beauty and comfort. As her story now comes to a quiet close, may she rest in peace, carried by the same waves and memories that brought her joy throughout her life.
