Gloria Barrera Armstrong, a cherished soul whose life was a testament to love, creativity, and service, passed away peacefully on August 4, 2026. Born on June 9, 1947, at Hellman Farms in Robstown, Texas, Gloria was the beloved daughter of Candelario Barrera and Maria Caballero. Her journey was one of profound connections and vibrant contributions to the world around her. Gloria's early years were spent in the warmth of a large family. She was predeceased by her dear sisters, Dora Curiel, Maria Elva Salinas, and her brothers, Felipe Munoz, Jose Munoz, Gregorio Munoz, Zeferino Barrera, and Hector Barrera. She is survived by her devoted husband, Marvin Dean Armstrong, her sister Maria Taylor, Andrea Ramirez and her step-sister Helen Barrera. Countless Nieces and nephews and step children. Gloria and Marvin shared a beautiful marriage, building a lifetime of treasured memories together. A graduate of West Oso High School in Corpus Christi, Texas; Gloria furthered her education at Del Mar College, where she trained as a medical assistant. Her career in Corpus Christi, Texas, was marked by compassion and dedication, and she retired after many years of serving her community with grace and care. Gloria was a woman of many talents and passions. Her artistry was expressed through sewing, crafting intricate Whataburger cardboard creations for holiday displays, crocheting, knitting, quilting, drawing, and sketching. She was also a skilled carpenter and woodworker, finding peace and inspiration in the wilderness and nature at her beloved ranch. A true CowGirl at heart, Gloria's spirit was wild and free. Above all, she was a poet and writer, using her words to touch hearts and honor heroes. Her dedication to veterans was one of her most endearing qualities. Gloria attended many funerals of unaccompanied soldiers, reading her own special poetry to ensure no hero was laid to rest alone. Her community involvement was equally profound, as she gave her time and energy to those in need. Gloria was a member of the Corpus Christi Cathedral, where her faith was a guiding light in her life. Her family expresses deep gratitude to the Hospice group, Vicki, Rome, and Rebecca, for their kindness and care, as well as to the Corpus Christi Postal Credit Union and the Veterans Cemetery for their support and open doors that enriched Gloria's life. In her honor, the family requests that donations be made to a charity of your choice, reflecting Gloria’s lifelong commitment to giving. Gloria Barrera Armstrong's life was a beautiful tapestry of love, creativity, and compassion. Her legacy will continue to inspire all who knew her, and she will be dearly missed.
