Corpus Christi

Larry Frank Banta, 80, passed away on April 6, 2026. Born on April 26, 1945, in San Antonio, Larry built a life rooted in family, hard work, and a deep appreciation for the simple joys of the outdoors. He split his time between Marion and Corpus Christi, two places he loved and called home.

A proud graduate of La Salle High School, Larry went on to become a master electrician, a career that reflected his strong work ethic and steady hands. He was someone people could count on, whether it was for his skill, his advice, or simply his presence.

Larry was an avid outdoorsman who found peace and joy in hunting and fishing. He loved history and sports, and could strike up a conversation with just about anyone, because Larry truly never met a stranger.

What made Larry especially memorable was the way he connected with people. He had a rare gift for making others feel seen and valued. Whatever mattered to you mattered to him. If you loved a certain team, he was right there with you. If you had a hobby or interest, he took the time to learn about it, talk about it, and even share in it. He did not just listen, he leaned in. Larry showed his care not in big, loud ways, but in the quiet, thoughtful ways that made people feel important. That was simply who he was, a genuinely good-hearted man who met people where they were and made them feel like they belonged.

At the center of his life was his family. He shared 57 years of marriage with the love of his life, Lualice “Sissy” Banta. Together they built a legacy of love that continues through their children, Kasey Banta Beckett (Bob) and Brandon Banta (Jeana), and their grandchildren, Ryan, Walker, Luke, Aaron, and Allie, who brought him endless pride and joy.

Larry will be remembered for his warmth, his stories, his easygoing nature, and the way he made everyone feel welcome. And if you ever caught him with his eyes closed, he would be quick to tell you he was not asleep, just resting his eyes. It is comforting to imagine that even now, he is simply resting his eyes, at peace, after a life so fully and generously lived.
