Norma M. Gonzalez

April 13, 1978 — April 5, 2026

Copus Christi

After forty-seven years of laughter, love and singing, Norma Marisol Gonzalez went to be with the Lord on April 5, 2026.

Norma was born as the youngest of three sisters and baby to Janie Gonzalez. Norma was the friendliest, chattiest, and most charismatic of the family. Her love of talking and helping others led her to a career in Speech Pathology. She began her career with the West Oso Independent School District. She then moved to the Rio Grande Valley where she worked for various home health and therapy agencies. For 13 years, she worked helping children learn to speak and helping families to improve communication. She absolutely loved her life’s work.

In 2013, Norma received her first leukemia diagnosis. She bravely moved to Houston, Texas for treatment at the MD Anderson Cancer Center with her long-time boyfriend, Luke Kirchner. There they were able to successfully achieve remission, but a couple of years later the cancer returned. During this round of treatment, she received a stem cell transplant with cells provided by her sister Monica. She again achieved remission. She was cancer-free for more than seven years but, the cancer returned in early 2024 and she received a second stem cell transplant. In 2025, Norma, being that unique person that she is, was diagnosed with leukemia cutis, an ultra-rare form of skin leukemia. This time Norma received radiation over her entire body and chemotherapy. She courageously faced and received treatment alone in Houston. After 13 years of cancer diagnoses, treatment, and remission Norma's body could no longer fight.

She came home to spend her last days enjoying her family, friends, and pets in the comfort of her own home. During that time she helped plan today's events and wanted to include more jokes because she wanted this to be a “fun”-eral, not a sad event.

Norma is survived by her son Luke A. Kirchner and his girlfriend Jadyn Rodriguez, sisters Monica Martinez and Nancy Maldonado (Victor). She also leaves two nephews, Eduardo and Victor Maldonado And two nieces, Veronica and Yvette Martinez. Norma was received in Heaven by her mother, Janie Gonzalez, and her beloved grandparents.
