Robert Eugene Thurman, affectionately known as Bob or Butch, left this world on June 11, 2025, in Corpus Christi, Texas. His journey began on July 26, 1952, in a small town in Indiana, where the roots of his vibrant spirit took hold. Bob was the true definition of a free-spirited hippie, embracing life with a passion that resonated deeply with those fortunate enough to know him.
Bob's life was a tapestry woven with his love for the beach, the thrill of riding motorcycles, and his cherished mantra of being “biker trash." His love for the open road was immortalized in the Harley Davidson tattoo that adorned his skin, a permanent testament to his adventurous soul. A Vietnam veteran, Bob carried the experiences of his time in service with him always, adding layers to his character and colors to his rich tapestry of life. In 1978, he found his new home in Texas, after moving around upon his return from the war, and it was here that he cultivated a deep appreciation for his humble abode, a place he consistently held dear to his heart.
Beyond his military service, Bob was a fervent sports fan, reveling in the camaraderie of sharing great tunes and delicious meals with friends. His laughter echoed at gatherings, where he brought people together, and his warmth and authenticity drew many into his orbit. He had an innate ability to make every moment feel special, using music and the joys of life to create beautiful memories that linger long after he departed.
Bob is now reunited with his brother, Mike and mother, Marilyn Jo. He leaves behind his only beloved daughter, Stacy Marilyn Thurman, who carries forward the spark of his lively spirit. Bob will be profoundly missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing him.
A memorial gathering to celebrate Bob’s life will be held from subnrise until sunset on Satuday, August 9, 2025, at Packery Channel Beach, mile marker 210, Padre Island, Texas 78418. The family invites friends and family to share in their fond memories and honor the profound impact Bob made during his time with us. As we remember Bob, we embrace the essence of his carefree spirit, the vibrant love he radiated, and the indelible mark he has left in our hearts.
