Obituary

Roy L. Smith, beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, and proud Navy Veteran, lived a full and meaningful life marked by his military service, adventure, curiosity, and deep love for his family.Roy was born in Wichita, Kansas, in 1942 to Delores Hart and Oscar Smith. He was raised in Oklahoma alongside his eleven brothers and sisters, where he grew up surrounded by a large family and the values that would shape the man he became.Roy was a disabled United States Navy Veteran who served during the Vietnam War. His time in the Navy took him around the world, including journeys through the Suez Canal, Panama Canal, Philippines, Guam and across the equator several times, where he earned the distinguished honor of becoming a Senior Chief Petty Officer and Golden Shellback. He carried that spirit of adventure throughout his life. Roy loved diving in the Hawaiian Islands, collecting seashells, fishing, and caring for all kinds of creatures. He found joy in the natural world and had a gift for sharing that wonder with those around him.Roy is survived by his loving wife of 62 years, Mary Smith; his children, Roy and Lissette Smith, Yvette Smith and Brenda Smith; his grandchildren, Kyle Smith, Amanda Smith and Alexandra Smith, Chris Bright, Yvonne Bright, Lee St. Louis, and Eddie St. Louis, and Braden Petru; and his great-grandchildren.Above all, Roy was a great father and a steady presence for his family. He will be remembered for his strength, resilience, his stories, his love for the ocean, and the legacy he leaves in the lives of those who knew and loved him. The world will never feel the same with the void he leaves behind for his family, but we were fortunate enough to be loved by you and call you Dad.
